emerald_bay_entrance_far.jpg (14077 bytes) Approaching Emerald Bay from the north. The bay and the entrance are quite hidden until you are right there. Mount Tallac is in the background.
emerald_bay_entrance_close.jpg (19851 bytes) There is a shallow bar that runs most of the way across the entrance. Be sure to enter between the red and green buoys. Once inside the bay, the speed limit is 15 knots.
fannette_from_north.jpg (33069 bytes) Emerald Bay sports the lake's only real island: Fannette Island. The rocky island is topped by the remains of a stone tea house, build and once used by the original owners of Vikingsholm. A trail leads from the south-west corner of the island up to the top. (This view shows the north side of the island.)
