Part of Vikingsholm is visible at the left. A steep trail leads up the mountain to a beautiful waterfall.

Emerald Bay is the premier boating destination on Lake Tahoe. It has a spectacular setting, surrounded by high mountains and encircled by forest. It is also the only truly protected anchorage on the entire lake, making it the best place to anchor out for the night. And it has the lake's only island, complete with the remnants of a tea house at the top.

At the west end of the bay is the majestic Vikingsholm estate, now a public park. The main house is open for guided tours. In front of the estate is a large beach. There is also a small pier, for loading and unloading only.

On the north side of the bay there is a boat-in campground.

The area is managed by the U.S. Park Service, whose site has information on the campgrounds and an underwater park for divers.
