The south shore is the lake's most heavily populated area. Nevertheless, the western end of the shore, dominated by Camp Richardson, maintains much of the old Tahoe flavor. Camp Richardson provides cabins, camp sites, a restaurant, a pier, and boat rentals. Tahoe Keys has two sections, with separate entrances. To the west is a huge development of waterfront homes and apartments. Just to the east is the entrance to the lake's largest marina, the Tahoe Keys Marina, which provides all services. At the east end of the south shore is the city of South Lake Tahoe, the largest city on the lake and adjacent to the gambling mecca at Stateline (just into Nevada). The city provides a launch ramp, and there are several piers and a few waterfront restaurants. Overall, however, this is a land-oriented part of the lake, and most boaters would do best elsewhere. |
